Calculate Panellists Questionnaire Response Time

Calculate Panellists Questionnaire Response Time

Introduction

By tracking the time it takes for respondents to complete surveys, we can gather valuable insights that can help us improve our processes. Firstly, response times reveal user engagement levels and identify potential issues with question clarity or user interest. Secondly, analyzing response times helps evaluate question difficulty and refine the questionnaire. Furthermore, response times offer insights into user behavior and decision-making processes, aiding in understanding preferences and motivations. Additionally, response times can indicate response validity, identifying unreliable or inconsistent answers.

Setting up Time Measure

There are a couple of steps that need to be taken if you want to track how much time respondents spend completing the questionnaire.
Within your questionnaire, we have the option to include a specific question type called "Time Measure." This question remains hidden from the panellist view but records in the background the duration spent by the panelist on that screen. In the settings, we can choose whether to store the results as date/time or as total seconds. We can add the time measure question type to either all the screens in our questionnaire or only to the screen for which we are interested in recording the time. By including the time measure on all screens, we will be able to track the total time taken by a person to complete the entire questionnaire.

Question type settings:
  1. Time measure Type: There are two options to measure time: Start Date/Time and Total amount of Seconds. The first option is often used to check if in-home questionnaires with time/date restrictions have been met or started on time. In case you want to calculate the total time of how much a participants spent in a test you can add a Time Measure question type in each screen and calculate the total amount of time that participants have spent in the questionnaire by sum all the seconds for each screen.
  1. Max Time: This option is used in combination with the autosubmit option to set up the max amount of time that a panellist can be on the specific screen. Panellists are allowed to click the next button before the max time has been reached.

How to export your panellist (time) data?

To export your project data you need open your project and click on Data > Data Export >Excel.

The generated file will show you how much time a panellist spent on each screen where you included the Time Measure question type. The table below is an example of data file when the output data/time is used.
