Napping

Introduction

Napping is a methodology that identifies how consumers classify, describe and interpret a large group of products based on certain sensory attributes from their own perspective. The panellists are given a set of products and instructed to arrange them on a tablecloth in order of how similar they are, while products perceived less similar are placed further apart. In this way, all samples are placed according to one another. 

Template Description

The template starts with a welcome screen. In the design section, the first screen includes instructions, followed by the napping question type in which panelists can group the products together on the virtual tablecloth. In the lay-out settings of this question, you are free to customize the tablecloth image according to your preferences. The sample codes from the design are used by default, and displayed next to the tablecloth. However, you are able to customize this in the standard settings of the question. You can enable the Show image option and then with or without the sample codes an image will be displayed. This image can be added in the product properties in the design tab. In the default settings of this question type for this template, napping option is chosen, forcing panellists to arrange all samples on the tablecloth.

In the end screen, the template incorporates a “thank you” message, providing an opportunity for you to personalize a final message for the panellists. 

Within the design settings, you can see that the template is created with a blocked design. This means that the panellists will receive the products simultaneously and can evaluate them all at once. Within this template, there are eight products included. You have the flexibility to adjust this amount in the design generator and edit the product properties by clicking on the Product section. 

Raw Data Representation

The raw data will be displayed with each row corresponding to an individual judge and the products they sorted on the tablecloth. The information detailing the coordinates of product placements on the tablecloth will be stored, and these details will be summarized under Q1 or the corresponding question number in your questionnaire where the napping question type is positioned. The first number corresponds to the product value and the following numbers are the X- and Y-values of the tablecloth.
